As one might imagine, Jaye P. Morgan wasn’t born with her silly name. The celebrity was born Mary Morgan. Her nickname refers to the financial firm J.P. Morgan, and she got it during her years as a savvy high-school treasurer. Though Jaye would show an affinity for economics while she was growing up, she would also show an affinity for performing. It would be her affinity for performing that would prove more influential upon her coming of age.

Soon after high school, Jaye tried her hand at becoming a professional singer. She found success, with her first hit record being released in 1951. By 1956, she was given her own variety series. Over the course of the 1960s, Jaye went into a cocoon of isolation only to reemerge as a much raunchier type of public figure during the 1970s. In 1976, she was hired to be a judge on The Gong Show.

The Gong Show pushed a lot of boundaries, which is a big part of why it proved so successful. Sadly, this boundary-pushing nature also had its downside. Join Facts Verse as we explore how Jaye P. Morgan was kicked off The Gong Show after exposing herself.
