Jay’s most recent accident occurred while riding an old motorcycle. He noticed an odd sound and tried to ride back to the garage to fix it, but he ran into an unmarked flag. He fell off, and the bike kept going. He broke his collarbone and several ribs and cracked two kneecaps. He didn’t want to talk about it publicly because of another serious accident he suffered in November of last year. Jay was working on a car with a friend in November.
The fuel line blew up in his face. His friend got him out from under it, but his face had serious burns and he had to undergo extensive treatment. Friends gave him plenty of support during that ordeal. Tim Allen called him as soon as possible and teased him like old times.
Jay is on the mend, but he’s dealt with several other health issues. After he saw his friend Rodney Dangerfield have a stroke on The Tonight Show, he got tested and realized he has high blood pressure. He’s now an advocate for awareness about the condition. Jay’s anxious to get back on the stage in March at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas. He’s working on a professional act with no political overtones.
His show, Jay Leno’s Garage, was dropped by CNBC after 15 years on the air. He understands the decision, but the gearhead in him won’t let him stop trying to see if another network will buy it.
