However, she had to compromise her modesty by taking a few shots of alcohol. She ended up shooting the scene hung over. Surprisingly, her decision to get drunk for the scenes was more profound than one would guess. All the way from her teenage days, Fonda had suffered intense insecurity about her personality. She attributed her plight to her father's sub-par parenting skills. And while she largely blames him, her husbands also made her insecurity worse. Throughout her childhood, she never really had a good relationship with her mother. Mostly because she was never really around. Her mother went in and out of institutions so many times that they never shared any close bond. She misused the only day she got when she was 13 years old to have a good time with her mother because she was angry at her. She was later told she had committed suicide, and Fond had lived with that memory of her mother ever since.
While it's hard to see movie stars shy away from having their personal life in the public eye after gaining stardom, Fonda proved to be very self-aware. She noticed how miserable she was getting with each passing day, so she left Hollywood and worked on her mental and physical health. She later made a dramatic comeback that reinstated her as a Hollywood star of this generation.
