The film told the story of a less fortunate boy from a private school. An affluent family takes him in and manages to help him work up from college football all the way to the NFL. The man behind the myth is Michael Oher. Like most of America, he saw it. Unlike most, he didn’t appreciate what it did with his life. It misrepresented the way he worked in the Puhoy family. It wasn’t an instant connection but a long and gradual one. It even change the way they met.

From there, the film made plenty of other small mistakes. It wasn’t historically accurate, toned down the racial elements, and gave Mrs. Puhoy access to Michael’s school records too early.
The most egregious error was how it misrepresented Michael as a person. He wasn’t a passive introvert, at least not on the football field. He also never had to be taught how to play football by the Puhoys.

Michael even experienced problems with the film after it aired. He feels that it hurt his career because it made everyone make assumptions about him. The actor who played Michael in the film, Quinton Aaron, has heard and responded to his criticisms. He encouraged him to focus on the positives. The Blind Side has inspired the world and made footballer rich and famous.
Michael chose to correct the film’s many errors by writing a book. In 2001, he wrote I Beat the Odds to tell his story in his own way.
