Before marrying Nancy Davis in 1952, Ronald Reagan was married to an actress named Jane Wyman from 1940 to 1949. When Ronald met Jane, he was 27 and she was 21. They were both working together at Warner Bros. Pictures, though neither was anywhere near the star that they were soon going to become.

Although Jane was married at the time that she met Ronald, she found herself instantly infatuated with the future politician. Jane courted Ronald, and their relationship soon became serious. When Jane started pressing Ronald for marriage, he said that he felt things were moving a bit too fast. In response to this, Jane threatened to commit suicide. Ronald called Jane’s bluff, but it turned out that Jane wasn’t bluffing. The actress attempted suicide, and Ronald subsequently gave in to her demands for marriage.
While Ronald and Jane were married for nearly a decade, their union was rarely a happy one. Despite the fact that Jane had been so adamant about securing Ronald for herself, she found herself dissatisfied with the relationship early on. Ronald spent most of his time performing his duties as president of the Screen Actors Guild, which didn’t leave him much time for her. Even after having three children together, Ronald and Jane couldn’t make things work.
