After only two nights of frost, ice skating takes place in various places in the country. Some controlled ice rinks are open, but there is also natural ice. It is very busy on the natural ice, but things also often go wrong.

Hundreds of people were found in the Ryptsjerksterpolder, in the north of the Netherlands, on February 18. Dozens of people fell through the ice, but that didn't stop the rest of the people from continuing to skate.

So far, people have only suffered from wet feet and clothing, and there have been no serious incidents.

According to the weather forecast, skating will still be possible on Wednesday. After that it will get warmer and at the end of the week the temperature can rise to around 17 degrees Celsius.
