Death Valley Days was an anthology series that retold true stories from the American Old West, focusing mainly around the Death Valley region of Southeastern California. It began as a radio program created by Ruth Woodman in 1930 and ran until 1945.
In 1952, Death Valley Days made the leap to television – a relatively new format at the time - where it was broadcast in syndication until 1970. From 1970 to 1975, re-runs of the program were aired with updated narration by country music star Merle Haggard. When you take into consideration the radio incarnation of the series, Death Valley Days was one of the longest-running Westerns in broadcast history.
Over the years it was on the air, Death Valley Days was hosted by several notable individuals, including Dale Robertson and then-future President of the United States Ronald Reagan. With the death of Robertson in 2013, every last former host of the program had sadly passed away. Join us as we take a look back on this trailblazing show and the individuals that hosted it.
