And had she lived longer she might have become an icon of American entertainment. Sadly, she passed away on December 16, 1935, at the age of 29. What’s even sadder – and even sinister – is that her death remains a mystery to this day.

Her mother was a Canadian immigrant, and her father was from Ireland. Neither came from a show business background so Thelma had to find a way to delve into the entertainment industry on her own.
She began working as a model and won prizes in several beauty contests. This helped her gain more attention and helped her find work in films. She soon landed a contract with Hal Roach studios and found work in several short films.
Once she collaborated with the Marx Brothers she became a huge star and it seemed that her career had one success after the next. Then, all of a sudden, the country was shocked when she died at the age of 29. Her reported cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning – and to this day, there are theories that she might have been killed.
