Most of the time, when actors are trying to land their big breaks in Hollywood, they have to work menial jobs until that golden moment comes their way. It's super common for stars and starlets to have first worked as pages, cashiers, waitresses and even as construction workers before getting noticed by producers and directors for their acting abilities. A few celebrities, however, either started off their careers doing adult films or later ended up doing them after mainstream roles stopped coming their way.
Generally speaking, the word “porn star” has a pretty negative connotation. Making the leap from appearing in adult films to becoming a real actor isn't an easy task. Even so, some film and television stars have been able to successfully make this difficult transition.
While there is nothing intrinsically wrong with appearing in adult films, it seldom ever helps fledgling stars to build an impressive resume that Hollywood producers are going to take seriously. And if they make the choice to appear in such films later on in their lives, it can often mean a death sentence for their mainstream careers.
