George Jones, one of the finest country music singers of all time, is well known to both fans and casual country music listeners, first for his music and then for his battle with drugs and alcohol. Despite his struggles, he managed to come out of the tunnel of his afflictions, but before that, in early 1982, George Jones got into serious conflict with the law for the first time when he was arrested in Mississippi on charges of DUI and cocaine possession. Then, on March 29, 1982, George Jones was driving home to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, when he crashed his car. He was taken to a hospital in Birmingham, where he received treatment for alcoholism and drug abuse. And these were only the early, less severe episodes in George Jones's long history of battling his demons.

In actuality, his professional career was booming at the time, and the psychotic episodes were only detours on the road to his Hall of Fame history. Even though he hadn't reached his commercial peak yet, he was still struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. Because of this, two international drug smugglers brought a box of George Jones master tapes that had never been released as security for a bond. To many at the time, George Jones was a country music hero because of more than simply his wild lifestyle and low points. It was also the way he kept going despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles in his own life.
Many people were disappointed by George Jones during his career, including his friends, family, business associates, record label owners, and fans who bought tickets to events George never attended. A time came, though, when they were able to forgive him. Why? Because his voice was unlike any other. George Jones ultimately triumphed over Satan.
