Captain & Tenille was a popular music duo made up of a husband and wife, and the duo was active until just before the couple’s divorce in 2014. The duo rose to prominence in the mid-1970s. The husband and wife comprising the duo were named Daryl Dragon and Toni Tenille, respectively, and they married in 1975. Daryl died not long after the divorce, though the two held no ill will towards one another. In fact, Toni was there alongside her ex-husband during his final days.

Daryl Dragon got his start in the popular-music world as a keyboardist for the Beach Boys. Daryl worked as a touring member of the group from 1967 to 1972. In 1972, while still with the Beach Boys, Daryl took up a side gig performing as a pianist in the Broadway play Mother Earth. The play featured music written by Toni Tenille. The two formed a friendship, and Daryl talked the Beach Boys into letting Toni perform with them. After a few months of Daryl and Toni performing together in the Beach Boys, Daryl and Toni broke away from the group to form Captain & Tenille.
Thanks to their 1975 hit “Love Will Keep Us Together”, Captain & Tenille became one of the most notable popular-music acts of the 1970s. The duo remained active until 2013 when the real-life husband and wife that formed it separated. In 2014, Daryl Dragon and Toni Tenille were officially divorced. Prior to Daryl’s 2019 death from renal failure, the musician was deathly ill for several months. During this time period, Toni was beside him.
