Although the character of the Joker had been portrayed previously in live-action serials, Cesar Romero represents the first true Joker on the screen for many fans. The actor had been famous for a while before being offered the role and famously refused to shave his iconic mustache when portraying the character. Besides the mustache, Cesar’s costume and makeup made him resemble the way the character looked in early comics quite spectacularly.
Cesar Romero had portrayed the character of the Joker in the 1966 series Batman. In 1989, the character of Batman was given his first big blockbuster film, and Jack Nicholson was cast as his iconic nemesis. Jack Nicholson represented a darker Joker than Cesar Romero, though things got even darker when Heath Ledger was cast to play the character in 2008’s The Dark Knight.
