Cassandra Peterson’s taste for the macabre seems to stem from an incident during her childhood. As a toddler, Cassandra poured a pot of boiling water over herself out of curiosity. This resulted in her body being covered by burns, many of which are still visible to this day. The future star was ridiculed for these burns during her childhood, and the bullying led her to identify with the oftentimes-disfigured villains in horror movies. Thus, the seeds for the birth of a horror icon were planted.
During Cassandra’s teenage years, she ran away from home because she was abused. A chance encounter with Elvis Presley while working as a showgirl in Las Vegas led to Cassandra deciding that she wanted to do more with her life. After spending a few years working in the pop-music scene in Italy, Cassandra returned to America and began working as an actress in California.
