Dennis Hopper was born on the 17th of May, 1936, in Dodge City, Kansas. By the time he died at the age of 74 on May 29, 2010, in Los Angeles, he had gotten out of Dodge and spent his life becoming one of America’s greatest actors, directors, entertainers, - and all-around bad boys.

He also entered the film industry at the best time. While Dennis Hopper grew up during the Golden Age of Hollywood, it was clear that this wasn’t where he would fit in. He was determined to enter Hollywood, sure, but he was determined to turn the entire film industry on its head!

Dennis Hopper became known for his involvement in the American independent cinema that flourished in the 1960s and 1970s. One of his earliest successes was in the film Easy Rider which she starred in and also directed and co-wrote. He soon developed a reputation as a renaissance man and gave us great performances as well as wrote great screenplays and directed hit films.

You might remember him as the villain in Blue Velvet or the director of Colors – but needless to say, you can’t forget him.

Dennis Hopper has had a fascinating life, and his incredible legacy and versatile career is worth looking back at.
