Either way, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were two legends of stage and screen. And, in Martin’s case, music as well. The two got together early on and created a stage act that was hilarious, charming, and incredibly popular. They then were able to transition to major success in radio, TV, and films. They were so popular at one point, they made 17 films together that were all a hit with audiences. It was an impressive run. However, 10 years after the two began performing together, they suddenly split up. And what’s worse, they then didn’t speak for over 20 years.
They got back together for an awkward live appearance on one of Jerry Lewis’s telethons, and that actually didn’t help to bridge the gap that had been created over the years. It wasn’t until another 10 years when by that the two finally made up and became friendly again. It was certainly a tragic story when you think about all the joy and entertainment the two brought when they were working together and enjoying each other’s company. For many years, people tried to figure out why exactly the duo decided to call it quits.
It was assumed that perhaps it was professional jealousy as the two became more and more successful. But Dean Martin eventually spilled the beans on why he didn’t want to continue working with Lewis.
