It seems that his sons are continuing his legacy and haven’t forgotten about the incredible career that their father enjoyed. Dan Blocker sadly passed away at the age of 43 and was at the height of his career. Nevertheless, in this short time, he made his living as a working actor and brought us Hoss Cartwright – one of American television’s most beloved characters.
Dan Blocker grew up in Texas and studied drama at university. He helped pay for his studies by working in a rodeo and as a bouncer. He soon developed a reputation for being a “lovable giant” and his charming personality would help him win over acting roles.
He took a risk by leaving the comfort zone of Texas for the ruthless entertainment business in Los Angeles. But from the late 1950s, he managed to carve a successful career in television. He found many bit parts in popular TV shows – showing particular interest in Westerns. It’s no surprise that he’d be cast as a lead character in one of the most popular Westerns of all time.
His talents were also passed on to his children. Two of his sons, David and Dirk have followed in his footsteps and have successful careers in show business. David has focused mainly on producing and has succeeded in producing some of the most popular feature films and TV shows. He’s also behind the production of two of the best TV movies of the 1990s.
Dirk Blocker has also become a successful TV actor – beginning his career in his teens. After seeing his father on set, he knew that he had to pursue a career in acting as well.
