J.R. was such a beloved villain that a plotline where he was shot brought in almost everyone in the country. He was played masterfully by Larry Hagman. He was also a drinker like his character, which led to his death from liver cancer. Jim Davis played the hatable Jock Erwing until succumbing to his battle with cancer.
Ken Kerchvall played J.R.’s nemesis, Cliff Barnes. He collected a wide range of starring roles throughout his career and was such an integral part of the show that he appeared in all its TV films and its reboot. That was until his tragic and quick death from pneumonia and cancer.
Howard Keel was already a major star in musicals when he signed on as Clayton Farrow. He had a successful career that was cut short by liver cancer. Other cast members used Dallas as a stepping stone for further work.
Patrick Duffy continues to act, and being Bobby Ewing launched his career. Victoria Principal, who played Pamela, is now a businesswoman. She makes skincare, writes books, and runs her charitable organization. Even Priscilla Presley got a turn on Dallas. Some of the best cast members chose to retire after the show ended. Susan Howard stays with her husband, Steve Kanely decided to take after the Ewings and get his own ranch. Barbara Bel Geddes spent her final years with her family. Omri Kratz played John Ross Erwing until he decided that acting wasn’t for him. The best part of the Dallas reboots and TV films was that they got these actors back together.
