Bettie Page was dubbed the “queen of pin-ups.” A photographer promised to make her a star with his portfolio, and it worked. She had the right qualities to make soldiers swoon until shying away from the spotlight in her later years.

Betty Grable’s spread was the most popular pin-up item of WWII. Soldiers of every country clamored for it. Her face appeared on planes and made her the girl with the million-dollar legs.
Rita Hayworth’s picture was the second most popular. It even made a cameo in the film The Shawshank Redemption. Many pin-up models knew what they wanted early. Diana Dors dreamed of a mansion from the age of 9.

These beautiful women were smart enough to go after what they wanted. Jayne Mansfield had a genius IQ but didn’t make it known so that it wouldn’t ruin her appealing “dumb blonde” image.
Not everyone thought what they were doing was acceptable. Jane Russel’s first film was almost pulled because of how much cleavage she revealed. Marilyn Monroe even regretted having to pose nude for money.

Their massive success didn’t make their lives free of struggle. Marilyn’s trauma led to her overdose. Veronica Lake also struggled with alcohol addiction. Many managed to find a way to overcome their struggles. Jane Russel became a born-again Christian and defended her earlier work. Faith also helped Bettie Page. Many classic pin-up models are now considered the most beautiful women to ever appear on film. The practice of pin-up spreads continues today.
