It started when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was obviously a traumatizing and difficult thing to endure, and Applegate was incredible fortunately that after undergoing a double mastectomy, her body was cancer free. This was back in 2008. But her health journey was far from over. In the next years, it was discovered that she has a genetic mutation that makes it much more likely for her to develop ovarian cancer. So, as a preventative measure, doctors removed her ovaries and fallopian tubes. At that point, it seemed like she might be past the worst of it. But sadly, that wasn’t the case. In 2021, she announced that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
This devastating news came as she was filming the final season of her snow, Dead To Me, and the actress had to struggle bravely through that process, even needing a wheelchair to get around. But amazingly, she was able to finish shooting the season. Sadly though, it appears as if Christina’s days of acting are indeed over. She attended the 2023 SAG awards, but before that, gave an interview with the LA Times where she moted it would likely be her last awards ceremony as an actor. And that she doesn’t see a scenario where she is back on camera.
