Georgia Holt was born in 1926 to a mother that was only 13 years old! Georgia’s father was a 21-year-old alcoholic. When Georgia started showing talent at a young age, her father believed that it could be their family’s meal ticket. He started bringing his young daughter around to nightclubs to have her sing. Georgia’s first performance at a nightclub came when she was only 6 years old. Eventually, Georgia’s father brought the family out to California. There, he believed that young Georgia was going to become a Hollywood star.
Georgia never ended up becoming the big star that her father had envisioned, but she tried multiple times over the course of her life. She also tried her hand at marriage multiple times, though she was even less successful at being a wife than she was at being an entertainer! Through it all, the only thing that Georgia could be counted on being was a good mother. Despite her hardships when it came to her finances and her love life, Georgia never let her two daughters be affected. Cher never realized just how poor her mother was growing up, and the rotating cast of husbands that Georgia kept in her life was rarely ever around.
