Regardless, there were a few celebrities who turned to religion to comfort them in their final days. These celebrities made strides in their careers but always depended on their faith to help them deal with the challenges of life.
John Wayne was known as one of the icons of American cinema – particularly Westerns. He was also a promoter of the American ideal and way of life. But he also was a firm believer in God and was dedicated to Catholicism for much of his life.
Patricia Neal also found comfort in Catholicism to cope with the troubles of her life – including failed relationships and the loss of her daughter. She had a relationship with Gary Cooper, who also had a troubled personal life outside of his successful film career. He discovered Catholicism later in his life and found it to provide him with relief from his troubles.
The famous Irish writer Oscar Wilde was one of the 19th century’s greatest wits. He is known for his incredible writing style and observations about the world. But he was also someone who explored Catholicism for much of his life. He converted to the faith shortly before he died.
Golfing legend Bobby Jones also moved toward Catholicism toward the end of his life. He had a successful career as a golfer and businessman. But he had to spend much of his later years wheelchair-bound and suffered many health issues.
