As he grew older, he realized that his comic talents would work well for the new medium of cinema. Buster Keaton made his debut working with fellow comic performer Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle. He became a star by appearing in Fatty Arbuckle’s films and soon became a lead actor in his own films.

His unique style of gags and stunts allowed him to get creative control over many of his projects. Even after he grew older, he began writing gags for many talented performers, including The Marx Brothers.

Today, almost six decades after Buster Keaton died, he’s remembered as one of the greatest comic talents of all time. He’s served as an inspiration for many comic talents ranging from Woody Allen to Jackie Chan.

On paper, his life seemed perfect. But behind the scenes, Buster Keaton’s life was full of troubles. He had a lot of sadness from his youth, as his mother eventually left his father due to the former’s drinking.

Buster Keaton also had a troubled marriage to fellow film star Natalie Talmadge. He eventually began having affairs during the marriage and then became an alcoholic after their divorce. His second marriage was to his nurse, Mae, though even she couldn’t save him.

His alcoholism began to take its toll on his life. His family, friends, and colleagues were naturally concerned about his life and career. It seemed that it would all go downhill for Buster Keaton.

That is until someone stepped in to save him…
