Brooke Shields is an American model and actress that first rose to fame portraying a child prostitute in the controversial film Pretty Baby. At the time that Brooke appeared in the film, she was only 11 years old. However, she had already been working in the entertainment industry for a decade, having appeared in her first commercial as an infant.

Brooke’s first commercial was an ad for Ivory soap. The same year she appeared in the ad, her parents divorced. Her mother took control of her life and subsequently forced Brooke further and further into a career in entertainment. This resulted in Brooke’s appearance in Pretty Baby, which was followed by an equally risqué ad campaign that Brooke was featured in as a teenager for Calvin Klein.
Brooke’s early controversial career came to a head with her appearance in the film The Blue Lagoon. The R-rated romance was so risqué that Brooke had to appear before Congress to testify that body doubles were used for certain scenes. Into Brooke's adult years, she did her best to leave behind the controversial image that her mother had forced on her, eventually firing her mother from her role as manager after she had acted as such for three decades.
