Brave honey badger survives leopard attack

A feisty honey badger fought off a persistent leopard attack despite suffering a leg injury.

Alan Webster was driving through Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa, on September 10 when he spotted a leopard stalking prey in front of his car.

Dramatic footage captured the big cat attacking a honey badger but despite sporting a clear leg injury the brave animal continued to snap back at its much larger predator.

The leopard caught the mammal with a couple of heavy blows from its paw but the badger managed to make it back to its feet and over a nearby dune to safety.

Alan said: The honey badgers leg was injured but they are tough as nails. He managed to make it over the dune out of the leopards reach.

We were following the leopard in our car walking in front of us and suddenly it went into stalking mode. We realised it had spotted something.

On the other side of the bush we could see earth being kicked up and we surmised it was a honey badger that the leopard was eyeing.

The whole encounter lasted for around five minutes. Honey badgers are incredibly feisty. They have a reputation of aggressive and courageous behaviour.

I had never seen anything like this before but the interaction did not surprise me from what I know of honey badgers and their courage.
