In Hollywood, he was spotted by famed producer William Asher. Troy was eating a cheeseburger at the beach, and William convinced him to sign a contract with Universal Pictures.
It would be Warner Bros. Pictures that ended up turning Troy into a teenage heartthrob, though the actor’s time in the spotlight proved unsustainable. By the 1970s, being thrown a bone by old friend Francis Ford Coppola in the form of a role in The Godfather: Part II wasn’t enough to keep Troy from sinking further and further into the bottle.
