Women have long played a pivotal role in influencing rock music. In this video, we'll be talking about one girl in particular who was especially influential to some of classic Rock's most prestigious stars.
Bebe Buell was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on July 14, 1953. At age 5, Buell already was obsessed with Rock n' Roll music. At the time, she considered Mick Jagger to be her biggest inspiration.
At the age of 17, shortly after graduating from High School, Buell was discovered by Eileen Ford, a modeling agency executive from New York City. When she was 18, Buell moved to the Big Apple to pursue a career in modeling. While living in New York, Buell befriended and dated some of the biggest names in the music industry.
In November 1974, Buell was named Playboy's Playmate of the Month.
Ford Modeling Agency fired Buell after modeling in the nude for that men's magazine. That didn't affect her career adversely, however, because she then was quickly signed with the Wilhelmina Agency. For the next couple years, Buell got to pose for high-profile magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and Cosmopolitan, among others.
In 1977, Buell gave birth to future-actress and model Live Tyler. Her biological father is Aersomith's Steven Tyler, although Todd Rundgren raised her as as his adoptive daughter.
Buell eventually achieved her goal of becoming a musician herself. For the last three decades, she has been touring and recording rock music. She's formed several bands over the years and has also done solo work. Today she lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
