Dog the Bounty Hunter had nowhere to go but up after his difficult childhood. He had an abusive father and fell in with a biker gang. That led to a murder case where he spent five years in jail. Then, he began tracking down criminals instead of becoming one. He bagged a serial rapist, and it got the eye of TV networks. They decided that it might be entertaining to watch him chase down the bad guys. It worked and gave him global recognition. What it didn’t do was stop him from experiencing tragedy after tragedy.

There was the loss of his wife Beth. She faced a courageous but difficult battle with throat cancer until she let go and told her family not to worry about her. Dog was a bit of a lady's man before meeting her. He has many children, and their relationships aren’t all great. There were two sons he didn’t know about. He discovered one on the anniversary of Beth’s death. He found out about his first child after the boy’s mother committed suicide.
The children he does know don’t all speak to him. His daughter Bonnie believes he is racist and homophobic. His other daughter Lyssa made a false sexual assault claim against him. She also alleges that living with him was draining because he was addicted to drugs and Beth was an alcoholic. Dog has also lost children. His son Zebedee only lived for a month. That was the first time, but not the last.
