While most parents would do just about everything to shield their children from harm, sometimes awful things happen that they can't prevent. For one Texas newlywed couple, they learned this life lesson the hard way. The unthinkable happened in Midland, Texas on October 14, 1987, when Jessica McClure Morales, better known as Baby Jessica, fell into a well in her Aunt's backyard. Jessica was only 18 months old when she had her life-changing accident.
It took rescuers 56 hours to free her from the 8 inch stone casing that encapsulated the good shaft at a depth of 22 feet below ground level. The story of Baby Jessica's triumphant rescue was broadcast across the nation and was later adapted into a 1989 made-for-TV film entitled Everybody's Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure.
It's been 34 years since Baby Jessica was pulled from that narrow well. In this video, we'll check in with her and see what her life has been like in the three-plus decades since her rescue. You won't believe what Jessica looks like today! It's shocking to think that's she the same person that was heard singing the Winnie the Pooh theme song as rescuers drilled down to save her.
Jessica has since married and has two children of her own. She was employed at a local elementary school as a teacher's aide working with special needs students. When she turned 25, Jessica received a trust fund that totaled $1.2 million.
