In 1992, the film icon Audrey Hepburn was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

After winning an Oscar for Best Actress for her first feature film, 1953s Roman Holiday, Audrey Hepburn went on to star in numerous blockbuster films. The most iconic of these is no doubt her appearance as Holly Golightly in 1961s Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
In 1967, Audrey took a step back from the limelight to focus on her family. She also devoted much of her time to humanitarian efforts, becoming an ambassador for UNICEF in 1989.
On a humanitarian trip in Somalia, Audrey realized that something was wrong with her body. She was soon diagnosed with cancer of the appendix and given four months to live.
Audrey Hepburn was desperate to spend her last Christmas surrounded by friends and family, including her two sons Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti. But it was uncertain whether she would survive a commercial flight to her home in Switzerland.
