It took years to transform him from a humble farm boy to a hitmaker. He always loved music and tried playing in bands, but chores took over. He thought he was going to become a farmer like his father before him. Then, something else took his attention away. He didn’t notice her at first, but then he realized that his classmate Norma was the one for him. They went on a date and then spent time apart, but that only made his love for her stronger.
George and Norma got married young. She supported him and went with him when he was first stationed at an army base in Hawaii. They then had their first child together. When he was discharged, he tried to get a record deal to no avail. It was Norma who convinced him to hang on and changed the course of his life forever.
She also helped him hold on through unimaginable tragedy. They lost their daughter in a sudden car accident but founded a charity to make sure something good came out of it. George and Norma are still very much in love today. He appreciates everything she’s done for him. He’s also grateful to be able to work with their son Bubba who’s also a songwriter. The King doesn’t plan on leaving his fans without a new country hit to sing along to anytime soon.
