Anson Williams rose to prominence as Ponzie in the hit sitcom Happy Days. His character was so beloved that he cameoed in several other shows and appeared in cast reunions. Anson is also a man of many talents. He owns a cosmetics business, directs, and more. His latest ambition is to become the mayor of his hometown, Ouija, California. The sitcom star is only the latest in a long history of celebrity candidates who’ve run for several types of political offices. Sports legends, reality stars, talk show hosts, and more have all used their celebrity to build a platform.
Some of them have achieved Anson’s dream of becoming mayor of their hometown. Sonny Bono led Palm Springs and Jerry Springer held the seat in Cincinnati. Other celebrities held the higher seat of Governor. One of the most famous wins was when Arnold Swartzeneger won in California. A few have even managed to hold the highest office in the country.
