Anita Ekberg was born into humble beginnings in Malmö, Sweden. She was one of 8 children and had big dreams. As she grew older, she became aware of her beauty and decided to pursue a career as a model. She also participated in the Miss Malmö and Miss Sweden beauty contests.
She eventually found her way to the United States to participate in one of the early Miss Universe contests. She didn’t win but she managed to gain the attention of Universal Studios executives. This began her career as an actress in major Hollywood productions.
While her experience with Universal Studios didn’t last long she managed to get work from Paramount Studios and John Wayne’s Bajtac Productions. She became a huge star acting in films made by these production companies – with her big break being in the film War and Peace.
As her profile in America grew, she decided to try her luck in Italian films. In 1960, she became the star of the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita. Her performance made her a star and she decided to stay in Italy forever. She soon became a huge star in Italy and is remembered as one of Italy’s most famous actresses – despite being a Swede!
But it wasn’t just her film career that made her a star. She also became known for her many romances with leading men. Anita Ekberg’s beauty and charm meant that she could have any man she wanted.
