He won the hearts of many thanks to his infectious grin and pageboy hairstyle. Eight Is Enough aired on ABC from March 15, 1977, to May 23, 1981. Inspired by the life of Tom Braden, a syndicated newspaper writer and real-life father of eight children who penned a book of the same name, the show follows the adventures of a family as they raise their children in the fictional town of Fairview Heights.

Several of the show's young actors credit the series with launching their careers. Teen idol status was secured for actors Grant Goodeve (David), Willie Aames (Tommy), and Ralph Macchio (Abby's orphaned nephew Jeremy) in the show's final season. According to IMDB, Rich appeared in "Code Red," "Dungeons & Dragons," in addition to "Eight Is Enough" from 1981 to 1982. From 1983 to 1985, Rich also provided the voice of Presto the Magician. He played his best-known role again in two "Eight is Enough" reunion TV movies. Rich's death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner Coroner's Office. It was announced that Rich passed away on Saturday in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Even though the death's cause is still being looked into, it hasn't been deemed suspicious.
Sadly, Rich is not the only Eight is Enough cast member to have died. In fact, several members of the show's cast have passed away over the years. Some include Richard Vincent Van Patten, Diana Hyland, Lani O'Grady, Michael Thoma, and James Karen.
