People seem to be divided as to whether it was appropriate to wear a fat suit for Fraser, and whether actors and actresses should in general. In this video, we’re taking a look at several actors and actresses who have worn fat suits over the years in films and on TV. Sometimes the suits were done strictly for comedic effect, and rewatching those offerings is pretty cringe-worthy in retrospect. Other times it was done because a character needed to fluctuate in weight, and it wasn’t logistically possible (or healthy) for the actor to lose and gain weight for those fluctuations. And other times, it’s because the actor was portraying a real person, who happened to weigh more than the actor did.
So they were forced to don a fat suit to achieve the most realistic portrayal of the person as they could. Regardless of the reason, there will still be debates over whether it’s appropriate to wear a fat suit when playing a character.
