Did you know that Susan Sarandon has been arrested multiple times for her humanitarian activism, and did you know that she takes her last name from first husband and Fright Night star Chris Sarandon? Susan Sarandon was the first of nine children, and her father was an advertising executive who was also a somewhat successful singer. During Susan’s college years, she met her first husband Chris Sarandon. The two both shared a dream of becoming famous. Susan ended up achieving this dream first, and their marriage fell apart by the end of the 1970s.
Susan received her first role while attending one of then-husband Chris Sarandon’s auditions. Chris was auditioning for a part in the 1970 feature Joe. Though Chris didn’t get the part, Susan ended up being picked out for a minor role in the feature. Later in the decade, Susan could be seen in the cult classic musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Throughout the 1980s, Susan received massive recognition for her turns in such features as Atlantic City and Bull Durham. It was during work on the 1988 feature Bull Durham that Susan met Tim Robbins. The two fell in love, initiating a two-decade-long relationship that resulted in two children. Susan had another child previously with director Franco Amurri in the midst of a love affair.
In more recent years, Susan has continued acting but has become just as known for her activism. In 1999, Susan was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador due to her humanitarian efforts.
